Azad Kashmir, 250 miles in length with width varying from 10 to 40 miles, 13,300 km² (5134 miles&sup2), Northern Areas, a much larger area, 72,496 km² (27,991 mi²), incorporated into Pakistan and administered as a de facto dependency, and A small part, the Trans-Karakoram Tract, of the Northern Areas that was ceded to China by Pakistan in 1963.

Bhimber

Bhimber is the chief town of Bhimber District, Azad Kashmir. The town is located at 32°58'60N 74°04'0E and is situated on the border with Azad Kashmir and Pakistan[1] at a distance of about 50 km from Mirpur, Azad Kashmir and about 166 km from Rawalpindi, Pakistan
Bhimber is also known as Bab-e-Kashmir (Door to Kashmir), due to its geographical location of the city. The area is very rich in archaeological remains due to its strategic location, it lies on the route that was followed by the Mughal Emperors for their frequent visits to the Kashmir Valley.

According to the 1998 census, the total population of the district stands at 297,000, while its population according to 1999 projections is approximately 303,000. latest figures show the population as 350,000, with an annual growth rate of 2.6% and household size of 6.7. In Tehsil Bhimber there is village named "Gurah Lillian" which has many bricks making plants and plays a crucial roll in the development of the whole district. Within Bhimber District lies the valley Kas Chanatar.
In District Bhimber, the populationis split into tribal communities. Tribal loyalty is important to most people. Traditionally marriages are arranged within ones tribe, and inter tribal marriages are rare. The main tribes are of the district are Jats (Rachyals, Kalyals, Bangial, e.t.c),Butt, Muslim Rajputs (mainly Chib, Sohlan,Jarral and Mangral),Gujar,Malik tribe,Mughal,and Sayyid etc. are the biggest tribe in the region. Politically Jats,Muslim Rajputs and Mughals have played a dominant role in the politics of the District.
The primary language is Pahari/Punjabi.
